Oomla HD2 handsetWith the launch of the Ooma HD2 it looks like dumb ass home phones will finally be catching up with their smart ass big brothers. The Ooma HD2 uses Facebook, Google and Yahoo! for picture caller ID.

The phone unit has a 2-inch color LCD which features picture caller ID where the images are downloaded from your online accounts with Facebook, Google and Yahoo!. Management of which is handled through the handset itself or the My Ooma web portal.

Dennis Peng, Vice President of Product Management at Ooma said in a released statemen “Because Ooma is an Internet-based platform, it allows us to add innovative and useful features more typically associated with a smartphone and blend the mobile and home phone experiences.”

Another cool feature on the Ooma HD2 is that it can be used as a baby monitor.

It should be in the shops in February and retail at about $60, but you will need the appropriate Ooma base station to use it.
